Skelaxin


Skelaxin (metaxalone) is intended for the treatment of pain caused by injuries, sprains and strains. This medicine should be taken by people to whom it was prescribed. This drug comes as a tablet for oral administration that should be taken three to four times a day, as recommended by your health care provider without missing doses or skipping them on purpose. Before you start taking this drug it's recommended to consult your doctor and learn whether it is possible to take Skelaxin, as you may have some conditions that may prevent you from doing it safely. It's always best to take Skelaxin on an empty stomach to improve absorption, as otherwise it may take your body longer to metabolize the medicine. In most cases taking Skelaxin is not expected to cause any serious side effects, but if you get any that seem to be bothersome or dangerous – consult your health care provider as soon as possible. The following serious side effects should be reported as soon as possible: mood changes, persistent sore throat, yellowing eyes or skin, worsening of seizures or pounding heartbeat. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding taking Skelaxin is not recommended as it may cause certain birth defects in the unborn baby. Any drugs you are taking are supposed to be reported to your health care provider before you start taking Skelaxin to prevent interactions. The following medicines are supposed to be reported: anti-anxiety drugs, antihistamines, anti-seizure drugs, tranquilizers, narcotic pain relievers, medicine for sleep or psychiatric medicines. If you have any diseases that may affect the success of your treatment, report them to you health care provider and make sure to mention any of the following ones: kidney disease, seizures, blood disorder and liver disease, as you may require a dose adjustment or your treatment will be reconsidered completely to make sure you benefit from it without any serious side effects.
